EDIT: 22.04.2024 - Conference Title Updated!

This week's article is all about what I perceive to be, without a doubt. the most exciting work-related event in my diary every year and I am so looking forward to it. If you are a trained facilitator of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method, this is certainly something that may be of interest to you.

Dates: Wednesday 2nd - Thursday 3rd October 2024

Location: Hotel Legoland and Conference, Billund, Denmark

This conference takes an unconventional approach, using the concept of "the right kind of wrong" to challenge traditional views on mistakes. Through LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® exercises and inspiration from world-class facilitators, you'll explore how to learn from mistakes, embrace innovation, and avoid becoming boring!

Traditional View of Mistakes:

Typically, mistakes are seen as something negative, leading to failure and needing to be avoided. In our Mindfulness studies and practice, we are often invited to fail epically and so I am really looking forward to joining the dots in terms of my own methodologies.

"The Right Kind of Wrong" Perspective: This conference flips the script. They're using the idea that some mistakes, if approached correctly, can be valuable learning experiences. It's about embracing smart mistakes as opportunities for growth and innovation.

Speakers include:

Harvard Professor, Author, Speaker and Advisor - The number one globally ranked management thinker in 2023.

The Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at the Harvard Business School, a chair established to support the study of human interactions that lead to the creation of successful enterprises that contribute to the betterment of society.

Her 2019 book, The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation and Growth (Wiley), has been translated into 15 languages. Edmondson’s latest book, Right Kind of Wrong (Atria), builds on her prior work on psychological safety and teaming to provide a framework for thinking about, discussing, and practicing the science of failing well.

Theatre Director, actor and educator.

He has been actively engaged in actor training since 2000 and is a visiting director both at the Royal Central School for Speech and Drama and at the London Academy of Music and Drama. From 2015-2021 he was the Director of Drama at Eton College.

He has given workshops internationally on Shakespeare including at Harvard University, The Shakespeare Institute in Stratford, and at the Primo del Teatro in San Miniato, Italy. He is a regular speaker on the value of the Arts, including giving talks for the Drucker business forum Vienna and the BBC.

Conference Chair. Professor, co-inventor & co-author of the original LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method from 1999.

Professor and the Chief Academic Officer at HULT International Business School with campuses in London, Boston, San Francisco, and Dubai. Johan serves as a Senior Adviser to the Peter Drucker Society Europe, chairs the Scientific Council of the Vienna Center for Management Innovation, and is an elected member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences.

CEO of IntHRface, Chief Executive Trainer in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method.

Micael is probably the most experienced senior consultant and Chief Executive Trainer in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology. He has been involved in developing the original LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology and new applications further. When time allows, he contributes to academic executive education programs for companies as an Adjunct Professor.

And here's how LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® ties in:

This methodology uses building with LEGO® bricks to spark creative thinking and problem-solving. It provides a playful and engaging way for participants to explore ideas related to mistakes. By building models and telling stories about them, attendees can reframe mistakes as stepping stones and develop strategies to learn from them effectively.

Overall, the conference is using LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® to help people:
  • See mistakes as opportunities for growth, not just something to avoid.
  • Develop practical skills to learn from mistakes and use those learnings to improve.
  • Become more innovative and interesting in their work by embracing a culture that encourages exploration and experimentation.

This conference is for ALL trained facilitators in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method. It does not matter where and by whom you have been trained – you are welcome here!
  • Join us for inspiration, skill-building, and networking opportunities among experienced practitioners.
  • You will get extensive hands on the bricks, co-creating and trying out new building exercises about making the most of failure!
